Switch buses in York to save over 1600 tonnes of CO2 a year

In 2020, First York took delivery of 21 Switch Metrodecker EVs, the first of it’s kind to be in service, bringing their fleet to 33 fully electric buses.

Switch Mobility – previously Optare, has been working with First York and the City of York Council since 2014, when their Versa buses were introduced to the Park & Ride route. Over the past six years, these buses have completed over 1 million electric miles.

Each of the new Metrodecker EVs will save approximately 70 tonnes of CO2 emissions on an annual basis compared to its diesel equivalent. The fleet will collectively cut CO2 emissions by 1600 tonnes a year, and have already saved over 750 tonnes of carbon emissions since they hit the streets of York last July.

"We are proud to continue our ground-breaking partnership with First York and the City of York Council." Switch Mobility
